The latest appointments within the hedge funds and services industry.

Northern Trust has appointed Alan Robertson as global head, sales and service, for Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI), the multi-asset class investment management business of Northern Trust. This is a new position. Robertson will be based in Chicago and reports to Stephen Potter, president of NTGI. Previously, Robertson was CEO and president of Northern Trust Global Advisors (NTGA), the multi-manager arm of Northern Trust. Joseph McInerney, who has been chief operating officer of NTGA, has been promoted to president and CEO, succeeding Robertson. McInerney is based in Stamford, Connecticut, and reports to Robertson.

European asset manager and investment advisor Alpstar Capital has appointed Bertrand Pinel as a partner and CEO. He was formerly with Dresdner Kleinwort where he held a number of senior positions.

Partner at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co (BBH) Thomas (Rick) Berk will join investor services and markets and assume responsibility for global client service. He will be based in Boston. Previously he served as BBH's chief information officer and Head of the company’s systems division.

Christopher Remondi, managing director, will assume executive responsibility for the BBH systems organisation, reporting to Taylor Bodman. BBH’s investor services and markets business provides cross border, institutional, administration and execution services for many of the world’s leading asset managers and financial institutions

Aladdin Capital Holdings
has appointed Sharad Samy as its general counsel and Thomas Donahoe as its global risk officer. Samy was previously a partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe (Europe). Donahoe joins from Angelo, Gordon & Co where he was chief risk officer. Aladdin Capital Holdings through its subsidiary companies is a boutique investment banking company with alternative investment management, broker/dealer and advisory business.

BNY Mellon has appointed Hani Kablawi, currently based in Dubai, as head of client management for EMEA with responsibility for country management and franchise clients across all business lines and products in that region.  He will be based in London and will retain his role as chairman of the Middle East and Africa region.

Tarek Elrefai, currently regional executive for Egypt and North Africa, will relocate to Dubai to take over as head of client management for the MEA region.
Janet Johnstone, Dubai-based chief administrative officer for the MEA region, has been made senior executive officer of BNY Mellon’s bank branch located in the Dubai International Financial Centre.
 
Cadis has appointed Rob Weber, Franck Willaime and Mike Meaney as managing directors for New York, Europe and Asia respectively. Guy Dobson has been named as strategic business director, based in London.
Weber joins from Deutsche Bank Global Markets Equity where he was vice-president of technology. Meaney was previously at Asset Control and Dobson joins from Charles River.

Larry Pohlman as chief investment officer and Amitabh Dugar as portfolio manager have joined the quantitative strategies team at Alfred Berg. Previously, Pohlman was director of quantitative research at Wellington Management and Dugar managed US and international equity portfolios at Mellon Capital Management. Both will be based in Boston. Alfred Berg’s Oslo-based quant team remains unchanged and will continue to manage its existing portfolios. Overall the quant team manages over €2.4 billion of assets in global equities and minimum-variance equity strategies for Nordic, European and Asian institutional and retail clients.

Towers Watson has appointed David Holding and Gregory Jackson as investment consultants to its investment teams in the UK. Holding joins the team in London from BNY Mellon Asset Management where he was an account manager in the institutional pooled pension fund team. Jackson joins the client consulting team in Reigate from Marsh & McLennan Companies where he was a pension manager for its UK defined benefit scheme.

Geraint Davies, Simon Cowen, Ryan Turner and Tamaryn Driver have been appointed as investment analysts to its UK investment team.
