BlueCrest Capital Management has appointed Steve Smith as portfolio manager for the $2.3 billion AllBlue Fund which invests exclusively across a portfolio of funds managed by BlueCrest, including BlueCrest Capital International and BlueTrend. He will be responsible for global sales and client service teams and will join the company's executive committee. Anne Popkin will continue to head BlueCrest's New York office focusing on leading client activities in North America.
Ian Reid, a Washington, DC based corporate strategy and advisory company, has added former US Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") branch chief Alicia Marshall to the company as managing director to lead the capital markets and asset management compliance practice. Previously she was the chief compliance officer for RLJ Select Investments, a hedge fund of funds formed in joint venture with Deutsche Asset Management.
Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research has announced a global structure for the metals, mining and steel research team, along with the appointment of Peter O'Connor as senior Asia Pacific mining analyst. He will head the Asia Pacific effort and will be based in Sydney reporting to Andrew Kearnan, head of Australia equity research. O'Connor will assume lead coverage of BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto and will take a primary role in co-ordinating mining research. He previously worked at Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse. Takashi Enomoto will continue to cover Japanese steel, metals and mining companies.
Jason Fairclough will assume the role of lead regional analyst for EMEA, covering large cap diversified miners, including Xstrata and Anglo American. He will work closely with O'Connor. Fairclough will also have direct responsibility for metals and mining research in Russia, South Africa and other regional offices. Fairclough reports to Simon Greenwell, head of EMEA Research.
Felipe Hirai will be the lead analyst covering diversified miners in the Americas. Kuni Chen will continue to cover large cap U.S. mining companies, steel and coal. Hirai and Chen report to Steve Haggerty, head of Americas equity research.
Gavin St Pier will work with the Mercator Group board to develop and promote the independent Guernsey business. He was one of seven directors involved in the management buy out of Walbrook Group from Deloitte. He later became a director of Barclays Wealth after it acquired Walbrook. Mercator offers fiduciary and corporate services, tax planning, pensions, specialist fund administration and investment management.
Structured Portfolio Management (SPM), an asset-management company focusing on fixed income, has promoted Chris Sutter to head of marketing and investor relations. He was previously responsible for client management of institutional clients in the US.
Geller & Company, a strategic financial advisory and wealth management company, has appointed James McLaughlin has been named chief executive officer of its wealth management division, Geller Family Office Services. Previously he was a managing director and head of the New York office of Convergent Wealth Advisors (formerly Lydian Wealth Management.
Fund of hedge funds manager Oakley Capital has named Julita Tonkich as an investment analyst on the Oakley Absolute Return Fund. Previously she was an investment analyst at Millennium Global Investments where she was actively involved in long/short and event driven hedge fund search and monitoring through qualitative and quantitative research.
Impax Asset Management has appointed John McDonald as head of sales and marketing. Previously he was head of alternative sales and marketing at New Star Asset Management.
riskart, a provider of customised software solutions and consultancy to buy-side and sell-side companies for the middle and back office management of financial securities and over the counter derivatives, has appointed Gerrard Mahony as EMEA business development director based in Milan.
Brown Brothers Harriman, a provider of customised financial solutions, has appointed Keith Haberlin to take responsibility for the company's securities lending business in Europe and the Middle East. He recently relocated to London from BBH Boston, where he has been part of the global securities lending team since March of 2008.
UK-based independent investment management company Securis Investment Partners has appointed Al Selius as head of a newly-opened New York office. His role will centre on accelerating the development of Securis's activities in the US with particular focus on product development and complementing the existing asset management and fund-raising operations of Securis.
Agency broker Hoare Capital is adding to its credit, asset-backed securities (ABS) and inflation teams with the appointment of Richard Gathercole to head the corporate credit sales team concentrating on high yield and distressed debt. He joins from the Bank of Scotland where he held a similar role. Sergio Marques joins as a senior credit sales specialist for France and Iberia, after a sales role at Bank of America in London. Mark Rogers has joined as head of ABS sales. Mark has 23 years of senior sales experience at HVB and UBS prior to his move from Commerzbank. He has hired another senior ABS specialist to work alongside him. Andrew Sheppard becomes the head of dealing after 23 years of experience trading at JP Morgan, WestLB and LBBW. He will be joined by two experienced dealers in investment grade and high yield/distressed arenas.
Joe McGrath, also from Commerzbank, is joining with Rufus Alcott, formerly a Henderson Global Investors dealer and Dresdner salesman, will specialise in UK funds, together with two specialist UK salespeople to be announced to work with Richard Gathercole. Iglika Bostandzhieva, formerly at Dresdner, joins to concentrate on emerging market sales.
Rhona Herbert joins from UBS to work with Ike Benson, Ziv Okun and James Riley on inflation swaps. Hoare Capital Credit business is headed by former JP Morgan and Dresdner salesman Tim Cartmell.
Ben Jackson has been named senior executive vice president of SunGard's energy and commodities business unit which is a combination of SunGard's energy and Kiodex business units. Matt Mandalinci, former president of SunGard's energy business unit, has been named president and chief customer officer of SunGard higher education. Previously Jackson was chief operating officer of SunGard's Kiodex business unit.
National accounting and advisory firm Rothstein Kass has appointed Neil Tendler as a tax principal in the firm's Roseland, New Jersey office.
Herbert Stich will take over as CEO of Swiss Fund Data in December 2009 from Max Baumann who has led the development of the joint venture since its launch and will retire at the end of 2009.
iShares, Barclays Global Investors' exchange traded fund (ETF) business, has formed iShares capital markets group for Asia-Pacific. The group will work closely with iShares participating dealers and market makers across the region to ensure liquidity and competitive pricing for iShares ETFs. The capital markets group is headed by Joseph Cavatoni, managing director for iShares capital markets in Asia-Pacific. The group includes two appointments: David Mann and Leslie Chiu, as directors of iShares capital markets. The team is based in Hong Kong.
Aladdin Capital Holdings has appointed Peter Graham as managing director of finance. He joins with over 20 years of experience in strategic financial management and operations at Merrill Lynch and Clay Finlay. Graham will be based at Aladdin's head office in Stamford, Connecticut.
Ellen Schubert and Ray Iler have joined the hedge fund team of Deloitte's asset management services practice joining Cary Stier, US head of asset management services. Schubert joins in the newly-created role of chief advisor to the asset management services practice and is based in New York, advising Deloitte's hedge fund clients on issues including operations, product structuring and regulation. Iler rejoins Deloitte as the Northwest Pacific hedge fund leader based in San Francisco. He is responsible for hedge fund industry matters involving audit, tax, financial advisory and consulting.
Deloitte Ireland has appointed Mike Hartwell as head of its investment management group. He joined the Deloitte financial services audit group in Ireland 15 years ago from Australia.
Thomson Reuters has expanded its leadership team across the Asian markets appointing Kotaro Okamura as head of Japan. Previously he was with JP Morgan. Henry Li has joined as head of China. He has 16 years of experience in the financial services industry in China.
