Liontrust will make two internal promotions in its marketing department following the departure of Rob Page as marketing director at the end of October. From November 1, Simon Hildrey will succeed Page as marketing and communications director and Nick Pilkington will be appointed head of marketing. Hildrey joined Liontrust in July 2008 as head of communications. Pilkington will report to Hildrey. Pilkington has worked in the marketing department at Liontrust for 10 years and is currently marketing manager.
Financial data integrator RIMES Technologies has appointed John Farris as head of sales, North American markets. Prior to joining he was head of relationship management for the portfolio and index services division of Standard & Poor's.
Insparo Asset Management has increased its investment and research team with the appointment of Mahan Namin as assistant portfolio manager. Namin will help the company expand further into foreign exchange and rates trading and research in equities and credit. He joins from JP Morgan in London where he had been a foreign exchange options trader since 2005. Insparo recently strengthened its operational capabilities with the appointment of James Gore from Gandhara Capital as finance and operations manager to work alongside Jon Laidlow, who took on an expanded chief operating officer role at the company earlier in the year.
The European Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (INREV) has appointed Lonneke Löwik as director of research and market information. Previously Löwik led the European infrastructure market research for RREEF in London. Löwik will head a team of three researchers and takes over from Andrea Carpenter, following her move to become director of Professional Standards and Communications, with a focus on events, training and communications.
Provider of business solutions and services to the investment management industry, DST Global Solutions has appointed Edward Dumas to head its risk management solutions in North America. Dumas joins from Manzanita Advisors where he was president. He will report to Jill Douglas, global head of risk solutions.
Maples and Calder has announced Petrina Smyth will join the firm's team in Dublin as head of tax. She joins from a large Irish corporate law firm. Maples has recruited a number of senior lawyers from leading Irish firms in the past year, including the partner appointments in 2008 of Edward Miller to head the corporate, Barry McGrath to head funds and Nollaig Murphy to lead the finance groups.
International offshore law firm Harneys has announced the expansion of its litigation and insolvency department in the British Virgin Islands with the addition of three lawyers including one partner. Global head of litigation Phillip Kite said the expansion is to meet growing client demand fuelled in part by the opening of the BVI Commercial Court earlier this year. Additions include partner Kissock Laing and associates Ian Mann and Marcia McFarlane. Laing joins the department after three years as head of the firm's Anguilla office Mann joins from the boutique BVI law firm Forbes Hare where he practiced commercial litigation for two years. McFarlane will join the department on her completion of the firm's professional development programme.
HSBC Private Bank has appointed Chris Allen as managing director and head of HSBC alternative investments (HAIL). From January 1, 2010 Allen will report to Nigel Webber, chief investment officers of HSBC Global Private Banking and functionally to Peter Rigg, global head of HSBC alternative investment group. Allen joined HAIL in 2007 to head the real estate division.
Citi has appointed Steve Donovan as head of global transaction services, Middle East and Pakistan based in Dubai. Until recently Donovan led the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) sales organisation for treasury and trade solutions.
Saigon Asset Management (SAM), the investment manager for Vietnam Equity Holding and Vietnam Property Holding, has named Hoang Nguyen to the new role of chief investment officer. Hoang Nguyen previously was an investment manager at Zurich Financial Services. SAM is in launching highly differentiated investment funds focusing on equities and real estate in Vietnam.
Paladyne Systems has appointed Jonathan Cross as managing director of Paladyne Europe. Prior to joining he was the chief operating officer of Tradar, a supplier of portfolio management and accounting solutions.
Atrato Advisors has appointed Hyacinth Chu, an 11-year veteran of the prime brokerage businesses of Morgan Stanley and UBS, as a managing director. Chu will assume a dual role directing the company's business development activities while also contributing to its research efforts, particularly on the operational due diligence side.
Butterfield Fulcrum has expanded its US business development team with the addition of Christine Egan. He joins Bill Neville, Jim Gabriele, John Peterson and Bill Henderson under the leadership of T Andrew Smith, global business development head. Since joining in April 2009, Smith has built a global. Neville joined Butterfield Fulcrum as managing director, strategic business development in May 2009 and has more than 25 years experience in the management of companies providing technology based services to the financial industry. Gabriele, previously of Caledonian Fund Services USA, runs the Chicago office and serves as managing director, head of strategy. He is joined in Chicago by John Peterson, also previously of Caledonian Fund Services USA, who is managing director of business development. Henderson has been with Butterfield Fulcrum for almost two years and has over 15 years of experience in financial markets, working most recently with Merrill Lynch.
Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research has named Michael Hanson as a senior US economist responsible for assisting in the development of our US economic view including thematic ideas and statistical models. He will be based in New York reporting to Ethan Harris, head of North America economics at Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research. Hanson joins from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors where he was an economist.
