RWC Partners has hired a number of people to work with Mike Corcell on its US long short funds. The RWC Biltmore and RWC US Absolute Alpha are US equity long short funds planned for launch in October 2009. The team joining Corcell will be Gabe Marshank, Alex Robarts, Sam Weeman and trader Hayes Varey. Marshank will be partnering with Corcell who he has known for over five years. He spent seven years at SAC Capital, where he was a senior analyst working closely with Steve Cohen. Marshank and Corcell will work with Marshank who is responsible for the analysts while Corcell is responsible for portfolio management. Robarts worked with Corcell for over four years as an analyst on the Threadneedle American Crescendo Fund. Weeman was number two in the global tobacco team at JPMorgan Investment Bank. The team will launch a Cayman long short fund, RWC Biltmore, and a parallel Ucits fund, RWC US Absolute Alpha, in the autumn. Both funds will be managed along the same lines as Corcell's Threadneedle American Crescendo fund.

Collins Stewart, an independent financial advisory group, has hired Gregory Miller to join its US research department as managing director and telecommunications services analyst based in the New York office. He joins from Deutsche Bank in Greenwich, CT, where he was managing director, equity research telecommunications services. The company also announced that Brian Wright has joined as managing director and healthcare research analyst also based in the New York office. Prior to, joining Wright was vice president and senior managed care analyst at Banc of America Securities in New York. The recent hiring of Miller and Wright as well as several other senior industry analysts is one of a series of strategic moves the company has taken to replicate in the US the same business model it has established in the UK and continental Europe in equities research and fixed income.

Clifford Chance has announced the election of three new partners in the Americas region. They include Isabel Costa Carvalho, George Kleinfeld and Fabricio Longhin. A total of 17 partner appointments were made worldwide during the company's annual promotion process. Costa Carvalho is head of the international capital markets practice in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Kleinfeld is a member of the litigation and dispute resolution practice while Longhin is a member of the banking and finance practice. They are both based in Washington, DC.

Aladdin Capital Management UK has expanded its sales and trading division with the appointment of Mark Atmore who brings over 19 years experience from Bear Stearns and Nomura. The sales and trading division is led by Michael Gibbons who joined the company in March this year. European trading and syndicate is headed up by Brian Robertson. The sales and trading division currently comprises 10 professionals and further people are expected to join later this year.

Omgeo, the global standard for post-trade efficiency, has appointed Jonathan Beyman, managing director, global head of operations and technology for Citi, to its board of managers. He replaces Naresh Kumar, also of Citi, who has retired his board position. In his current role at Citi, Beyman is responsible for the operations and technology division supporting the bank's global securities and banking and global transaction services businesses.

Tullett Prebon has appointed James O'Hora as senior vice president of alternative investments. He will be based in the White Plains, New York office. Previously O'Hora was managing director of institutional client group and head of private company listings for NYPPEX The alternative investments team provides institutional investors with the opportunity to buy and sell secondary interests in hedge funds and private equity funds. O'Hora will concentrate his efforts on bringing these products and services to the private equity segment of the market. Neil Campbell is head of alternative investments in London.

Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company, a $9 billion fund of hedge funds, has appointed Peter Stein (from August 1) as senior management and chair of the strategy allocation committee. He will be based in Irvine. Previously he was the chief investment officer at the University of Chicago.

Boutique equity derivatives strategy and execution company Macro Risk Advisors (MRA) has expanded its sales trading team adding Justin Golden, Daniel Kirsch, Phillip Rapoport, Gabe Catala, Jonathan Simblist and Jon McLaughlin. MRA provides institutional investors with derivatives market insight, trade ideas and trade execution for equities, exchange traded funds (ETFs), listed options, and over the counter (OTC) derivatives. According to Dean Curnutt, founder and president of MRA, the company had the opportunity to reunite some of the members of the team that made the equity derivatives business at Banc of America Securities. Curnutt was the head of equity sales trading at BofA Securities. In 2008 he began assembling a team of derivatives experts. Golden, formerly a principal at BofA, provides strategy and execution in equity options, cash and ETF products and OTC derivatives. Kirsch was a member of the institutional equity derivative sales group in London with BofA where he focused on building the sales platform. Rapoport was with the team at BofA, most recently on the capital structure desk at Goldman Sachs where he helped hedge fund clients identify and execute opportunities across the capital structure and asset classes. Simblist is responsible for the development of the operational and technological components of the business at MRA. He was a vice president at BofA where in his most recent role he spearheaded the electronic option sales.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch has expanded its Canada corporate banking business with in Toronto with the appointment of Christopher Impey as managing director and head of Canada corporate banking. He will join in October and report jointly to Patricia DelGrande, head of Americas corporate banking, and Dan Mida, head of Canada corporate and investment banking. Earlier the bank hired Daljeet Lamba as managing director, Canada corporate banking. He will report to Impey.

Interdealer broker ICAP has expanded its base metals broking business with the appointment of Francis Asher who joins from commodities trading company Manro Haydan.

Société Générale Securities Services (SGSS) has appointed Frédéric Barroyer as CEO for SGSS Germany. He will be based in Munich. Barroyer has over 15 years of experience in the finance industry, much of which was acquired within the Société Générale group.

Appleby has appointed Gray Smith, a senior international funds lawyer, as a partner in the firm. He joins the funds and investment services practice team and will be based in the Cayman Islands. Prior to joining Appleby he was London managing partner at Ogier and then general counsel at a London-based asset management company.

ETF Securities has appointed Mark Weeks as chief executive of the ETF Exchange, said to be the world's first third generation ETF platform. His appointment is part of ETFS's expansion plans. Weeks joins from UBS where he ran the securities lending franchise in Zurich.

FTEN has expanded into Europe with the establishment of FTEN Europe. Valerie Bannert-Thurner has been named as European executive director. Previously she established European operations for Skyler. The FTEN execution and risk control platform offers hedge funds, proprietary trading companies and their sponsoring broker a platform for high speed executions across multiple venues and asset classes along with real-time pre-trade and post-trade risk controls to continuously monitor 'black box' trading positions and limits

DST Global Solutions, a provider of business solutions and services to the global investment management industry, has appointed Jamie Verrengia to spearhead the delivery of its performance solutions in North America. He joins from State Street where he was responsible for the implementation and technical support of global performance measurement and attribution solutions.

Philip Hendy has joined Mourant International Finance Administration as associate director of real estate fund services in Jersey. He will provide property expertise to structures administered by Mourant and will act as a director on the boards of real estate funds.

Chuo Mitsui Trust International (CMTI), the global arm of Chuo Mitsui Asset Trust and Banking, has appointed Makoto Nakamura as managing director of its London office. Nakamura will oversee Chuo Mitsui's international strategy. Nakamura has been in the group for over 20 years.

Infonic, provider of HedgeSphere product suite for operations of funds of hedge funds, has named Nolan Phillips as chief operating officer and Bridget Piraino as head of global marketing and sales. The company, based in Zurich, also announced it has established a New York office headed by Piraino. It has also hired Jane Conway, as business product architect, who will lead the expansion of the product design and management function at the company, and Paul Passant, as technical product architect for the next generation HedgeSphere architecture.

William Osborn, chairman and a director of Northern Trust Corp and its principal subsidiary, Northern Trust Company, is stepping down from these roles on November 11, 2009, after 39 years of service with Northern Trust. Osborn will retain the title of chairman until November 11, 2009 when Frederick Waddell, currently CEO and president will assume the additional title of chairman. Osborn joined Northern Trust in 1970 and was named chairman in 1995. Waddell joined the company in 1975 and has held leadership positions in commercial banking, strategic planning and personal financial services. In March 2003 e became head of the corporate and institutional services business unit and, in February 2006, was named president and CEO of Northern Trust.

Investment management company Structured Investment Management has appointed Mark Graham as executive vice president in structured finance. Previously he headed corporate solutions and hybrid capital for the Americas at Barclays Capital. The company has also recently expanded its staff to include two other officers. Ed Chandler has joined as senior vice president, platform distribution. Leona Qi has joined as senior vice president, global sales and distribution, institutional and dealer sales.
