AllianceBernstein Holding has appointed Patrick Whalen as global head of trading. He was previously global head of equity trading and infrastructure for Lehman Brothers.

Altegris Investments has hired Mark Dombrowski as a senior research associate focusing on operational due diligence and risk. He joins from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he served as an associate in technology investment banking. He has also worked in hedge fund operations and portfolio management at Context Capital Management.

Christopher Harvey has joined Dechert as a partner in the financial services group in the firm's Boston office. Previously he was a partner and co-chair of the investment management practice group at law firm WilmerHale.

Citi's global transaction services business has appointed Jervis Smith as global head of client executive within the securities and fund services division, Richard Ernesti as global head of investor services client and sales management, Richard Street as head of securities and fund services East and Jason James as product head of issuer services in the Middle East and North Africa.

DST Global Solutions has hired Zhu Li Tao as head of market strategy for China and Edward Fleck to lead its relationship management activities for North American clients. Fleck was previously a solution partner in the financial services practice of EMC Consulting. Li Tao was previously a director in the asset custody department of Bank of Communications.

EXENET has appointed Gil Shaked as chief executive officer. Previously he was managing director and the global head of prime services and alternative investments technology at Credit Suisse.

VocaLink, the international payment transaction specialist, has appointed Sir John Gieve as chairman. Previously Sir John was deputy governor of the Bank of England and also served on the bank's Monetary Policy Committee and as its representative on the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) board.

Nick Spencer has joined GAM as head of UK institutional. He was previously an executive director at Lehman Brothers Asset Management where he headed the company's European consultant relations and was a member of its alternative investment solutions team.

Hendrik van Riel has joined research and indices company ECPI as executive chairman. His previous role was as managing director of JPMorgan Asset Management in New York and London.

Jersey Finance has appointed Zhaoan Li as head of greater China business development to help promote Jersey's financial services industry in China and Hong Kong. Li has 13 years of experience in financial services working for a range of banks such as UBS Investment Bank, Commerzbank and Bank of Boston.

Legal & General Investment Management America has appointed Tom Meyers as head of North American distribution. He joins with 24 years of experience in the asset management industry most recently at Wells Capital Management.

Christopher Grandi has joined the advisory board of Marketcetera as a strategic advisor for hedge fund technology and investment services. Previously he worked as managing director of business development and then president at Eze Castle Integration. Larry Stefonic has also been appointed to its advisory board. He will now be a strategic advisor for open source platforms and business strategies. Previously he worked at MySQL AB in a variety of roles including running its growth operations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Alger has hired Matthew Klimek as vice president, director of regional marketing associates. He recently was supervisor of internal sales with Franklin Templeton Distributors.

David Morgan has been appointed by Managing Partners Limited to the newly created position of head of institutional sales. Previously he was head of UK and Channel Islands business development at Turnstone Asset Management.

John Herbert has been appointed as senior advisor of the Advanced Capital Global Real Estate Opportunity Fund at Advanced Capital. He previously worked at Merrill Lynch where he was managing director and head of European property and hotels group until 2007.

NIR Group has appointed David Ratzker as portfolio manager to head the company's structured equity investments. He was most recently at Yorkville Advisors where he structured private equity transactions for publicly traded corporations.

Nomura has made eight senior appointments in its European equity research division, covering the business services, leisure and transport & infrastructure sectors. Mark McVicar, Joel Copp-Barton and Andrew Evans have joined from Dresdner Kleinwort to cover the transport and infrastructure sectors. Marc Van't Sant and Ed Steele have been hired to cover the business services sector and were both previously at Citi. Simon Larkin and Nick Thomas will join from Royal Bank of Scotland to cover the leisure industry. Rebecca Langley joins the firm from Dresdner Kleinwort as an industry specialist to cover the business services, leisure and transport and infrastructure sector group.

Overlay Asset Management has appointed Philip Bond as head of research and chairman of its research committee. He has 18 years' experience in financial markets, both as a quantitative researcher and trader and previously worked for Credit Suisse and JP Morgan as an arbitrage trader.

Rob Ten Heggeler has been appointed as a member of the managing board of NIBC Holding where he will be heading the strategic business unit merchant banking. He previously held various senior management positions covering a full range of services at ABN AMRO Bank, Fortis Bank and Rabobank International.

Skandia Investment Group has appointed Marc Bulstrode as chief commercial and finance officer. Bulstrode has spent the last six years with Barclays where he held various roles including most recently as a director within the Wealth business.

Adam Signy has been hired by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett as a partner in its London office. He will focus on mergers and acquisitions, particularly public company takeovers and private equity transactions, as well as capital markets. Signy had been a partner of Clifford Chance law firm for 22 years.

Stenham has appointed Andy Taylor as head of UK property.

Ronald Port has joined Sourcecap International as a senior analyst. Previously he ran the Fidelity Nordic Fund and also worked as an equity research analyst covering the European support services industry at Fidelity.

State Street Global Markets has appointed Rick Boomgaardt as the head of its transition management desk for Europe. Prior to joining State Street, he worked in the transition management business at Credit Suisse.

Welton Investment Corporation has appointed Guillaume Detrait as managing director, chief risk officer. He was formerly vice president of strategy and analytics at HSBC in California working in their strategic partnerships group.

Bank of New York Mellon has appointed Julian Poodhun, Huw Rees and Kelly Wilson to its alternative investment and broker dealer global client management division. Poodhun joins as the lead client executive for the alternative investment sector after spending nine years at Merrill Lynch where he was responsible for running the prime brokerage sales group. Rees joins as head of the client executive team for the investment-banking sector in Europe after previously being head of European creditor relations. Wilson will be a client executive for broker dealers after spending seven years at Lehman holding posts including relationship manager in creditor relations.

Tatziana Paraguacuto has been appointed as partner in the investment funds group at the London office of Maples and Calder. She previously held roles at the funds practice of Schulte Roth & Zabel having worked in its London and New York offices.
