The latest appointments within hedge funds and funds of hedge funds as well as related service industries.

Fox-Pitt Kelton Cochran Caronia Waller, a global investment bank specialising in the financial services sector, has appointed John Pancari as a senior vice president. He joins the US bank's equity research team and will cover small-cap banks in Texas and California. Prior to joining Pancari worked in equity research for JPMorgan, where he spent five years as a senior analyst covering small-cap banks and almost four years as an associate assigned to the large-cap bank analyst.

iShares, Barclays Global Investors' exchange traded fund (ETF) business, has expanded its Asia management team. David Gardner has joined iShares Asia management team as managing director and head of sales, iShares Asia-Pacific. Joseph Cavatoni also joins the Asia management team as managing director, iShares Asia Capital Markets. Eleanor Seet has been appointed senior director of iShares private wealth distribution and Anthony Chan as iShares senior investment strategist.

Mark Kirsch, Joel Cohen and Christopher Joralemon have joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's New York office as partners. All three were previously with Clifford Chance where Kirsch served as the global chair of the litigation practice and a member of its global management committee, and Cohen was head of US litigation and disputes resolution practice. Kirsch joins as co-chair of its litigation practice group.

Gerald Lieberman is retiring as president and chief operating officer, effective July 31, 2009, of AllianceBernstein Holding. David Steyn, global head of distribution, will assume the role of chief operating officer. Steyn will continue to oversee distribution services in addition to assuming his new duties as chief operating officer. Mr. Kraus said, "With 30 years of both investment and sales-management experience in the financial services industry, including the last 10 with our firm, David brings a wealth of knowledge and the broad perspective necessary to succeed in his new role."

List Group has appointed Antonio Attanasio as chief marketing officer and Marco De Matti as sales manager. Attanasio brings over 20 years of experience gained at Reuters, Dow Jones and GL Trade. Matti has extensive expertise in compliance and business process management solutions from his previous post at Ultimus.

Liontrust Asset Management has appointed Adrian Collins as non-executive director and deputy chairman. Bernard Asher will retire as non-executive chairman at an unspecified date and be replaced by Collins who has worked in the fund management industry for over 30 years, including as managing director of Gartmore Investment Management. He is currently a consultant to Strand Partners, a corporate finance business. In addition the company has recruited Ian Lewis for a new role as head of institutional clients. He joins the company on September 1. At the same time Stephen Watson, institutional marketing director, will take on a new part-time role supporting Dick Hoag in his sales efforts in the North American market and help to develop the company's global equity investment capability. Lewis was previously head of UK institutional clients at New Star Asset Management.

International law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel (GLN) has expanded its Asia practice with the appointment of banking and finance specialists Colin Mercer and Balbir Bindra to lead the Asia banking and finance group. The law firm now has Hong Kong and English law capability. The team will also have New York qualified practitioners, enabling the firm to provide full finance capability in the region. Asia team is now made up of 90 lawyers working from three offices in greater China and two in Vietnam. Mercer is currently head of the London office and a partner in the GLN finance/project finance department. He represents leading investment banks and multinational corporations with a particular focus on structured finance and debt-related products. Colin will divide his time between London and Hong Kong. Bindra joins from Sidley Austin and advises arrangers, issuers, investors and swap providers on a broad range of banking, capital markets, securitisations and structured finance matters.

Reech CBRE Alternative Real Estate, the joint venture alternative investment company owned by CB Richard Ellis and Reech AiM, has appointed Martin Allen. Previously he led the real estate equity analysis team at Morgan Stanley.
